RUSZWURM
The Ruszwurm Café is Hungary's oldest café, it was established in 1827. In this more than 180 years there has not been changed many things as you can see if you study the old photographs. It's a very small café, but there is great confectionary available. My favourite is "Crémes". Opening hours from Monday to Sunday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Visit the website at (click on logo):
GERBEAUD
Another pearl: founded in the year 1858 it is one of the most famous cafés in Budapest. Located in the heart of the city (Vörösmarty tér 7-8) it is easy to visit. Especially well known are the Dobos and Eszterhazy cakes and naturally the Gerbeaud piece. Opening hours are from Monday to Sunday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
CENTRAL
The Central Coffeehouse describes itselfs as follows: "We are proud of our forefathers an we are aware of the challenges of our age. We do not intend to evoke the past, but we intend to revive the kind of intellectuality that used to make this place one of the most popular intellectual centres of the capital ... We cannot do more than to provide the "scenery" - the atmospheric environment, good food, seductive sweets and refreshing drinks - the good spirits must be brought along by you. By all those who stop by for a cup of coffee in the morning, for lunch at noon, for a glass of wine on the way to the theatre or a light dinner after the theatre and who take part in one of our programmes as members of a creative audience."
